| The Empathic Instant There are five modes in Infra Language. Those people you meet in your daily life are usually in one, predominant mode. Sometimes their mode is determined by their situation. For example, if they are at work, they may be mostly in the thinking mode (that's called Infer). If they are watching a funny movie, they may be in infeel mode (that's the mode related to emotions). However, everyone has at least one mode in which they are comfortable and adept. Once you know that mode, you should rush to it as well. You will gain empathy with them in an instant. Which Mode Are They In? You can often tell someone's mode by the way they present themselves. Information ![]() They dress in bright colors or in zany designs. They listen to talk back radio and watch TV. They are constantly gathering information. Not using much of it, though, other than to tell you about it. Info is everything. Going in and going out. If they don't get what they need, they are quickly bored. Life is a continual process of avoiding boredom. They are in info mode. When you are with them, jump into the information stream. Either give information or receive it. Churn through it. You don't have to analyze or even believe. Calculation ![]() People dominated by Infer Mode constantly compare, contrast, measure and calculate. They are thinkers ... usually, profoundly attached to the real world. They are skeptical. They avoid emotion. You can see that in their faces. They tend to lack expression. You'll see a few laugh lines but their forehead may be creased with frowns. That's from thinking. The infer mode person does not care much for how they dress. Plain or messy is okay by them. The shirt tail out and the odd sox is typical. Welcome to infer mode. When you are with someone in infer mode, talk about measuring and comparing. Ask their opinion and get them to calculate. You'll be instantly engaged with them. Knowledge Formation ![]() It's sometimes called the 'invisible mode' because it is the hardest to recognize. People dominated by infix mode are totally attached to their values. They know what they know and that's all there is to know. You'll talk to them, searching for understanding and suddenly they will make it clear that the only way to understand the world and people is through their particular philosophy. It will become so powerful that you'll find you are with them or against them. And, some will barely be able to argue for and against their position because to be against it is to sup with the devil. When you are with someone in infix mode, explore (without criticism) their view of the world. Tell them you understand (for that's what they are seeking) and be serious and thoughtful. Feeling ![]() For this person, the world is emotional. Everything they hear, see, feel, learn, understand and do is saturated with feelings: good, bad and every shade between. They will move from one mood to another in a twinkling and jump on to another related. They will swerve and shift and sift a subtle feeling from somewhat sad to gray sad, of course, blue sad. This is infeel mode. When you are with them, feel everything and explain how you feel. They are used to dealing with people who are not as emotionally intelligent as themselves and they have many feelings about that experience, too. Doing ![]() Watch out! They are on the move. They sit, then jump, then twist, then slide. They travel, tramp, and trundle through their lives seemingly running away from thinking. You see, the inforce mode person knows that thinking solves nothing and action solves everything ... well, nearly. And, in any case, something that isn't solved by action can be worked over again by doing something different. Let's go for a run, shall we? When you are with them, get ready to move. You can talk, as long as you walk. You can think, as long as you slink along behind. You can watch TV as long as you press that remote a hundred times. Empathize in their mode. Quick. |
